Abergeldie has been selected by WaterNSW to deliver the Warragamba Pipeline Valves and Controls Upgrade to improve the existing level of service, ensuring a safe and reliable water supply across Sydney.  The Warragamba pipelines consist of two parallel pipelines that deliver raw water via gravity from Warragamba Dam to Sydney Water’s water treatment plants at Warragamba, Orchard Hills, and Prospect.

The scope of works will see Abergeldie facilitate the design and construction required to replace or refurbish a total of 23 major valves and upgrade associated power supplies and control systems, replace existing access structures, install CCTV at major cross connections and install a reliable pipeline pressure monitoring and breakage detection system.

Abergeldie CEO, Mark Bruzzone said “We are really thrilled to be working with WaterNSW on highly complex and critical infrastructure upgrade for the people of Sydney. We look forward to applying our decades of experience to improve the asset reliability, water quantity, safety and security across the Warragamba Pipeline.”

CEO Mark Bruzzone will participate in his third Vinnies CEO Sleepout on 22 June 2023, aiming to raise $55,000 for Australians at risk of, or currently experiencing homelessness. The money raised helps to provide crisis accommodation, food, healthcare, counselling, education, employment, and support to find a permanent home for those in need, all year round.

The Vinnies CEO Sleepout has been running since 2006 and has raised more than $81 million nationally over the lifetime of the event. It is devastating that Vinnies estimates over 120,000 Australians are experiencing homelessness. Of these, 60% are under 35, 44% are women and 13% are under 12 years old. In 2023 it is integral that Vinnies continues to fundraise and with your help, we can help break the cycle of homelessness for good.

CEO, Mark Bruzzone said “The Vinnies CEO Sleepout is just one small way I can help make a difference and bring an end to homelessness. I am looking forward to catching up with fellow CEOs and other business leaders at this annual event to help Vinnies raise vital funds to provide accommodation and essential services to those in our community who need our support.”

Abergeldie’s commitment to building better communities extends beyond the complex infrastructure we deliver for our clients; it is deeply embedded into our core values as a civil engineering business. Through our transformative community partnerships, we are in a privileged position to support the communities where we live and work and help counter social injustices like homelessness.

Following months of meticulous planning, we are pleased to share a major milestone for the new Alfred Street Bridge in Parramatta, with the arch structure successfully lifted and positioned into place. The Alfred Street Bridge will be the first true diagonal arch bridge in Australia, delivering a new pedestrian and cyclist connection over the Parramatta River between James Ruse Drive and the Gasworks Bridge. The $19m landmark project is in the final stages of completion and is part of the revitalisation of the Parramatta River and is proudly funded by City of Parramatta and the NSW Government’s Housing Acceleration Fund.

The operation to lift and position the prefabricated, 115 tonne Australian BlueScope steel arch structure for the Alfred Street Bridge using a 750 tonne Liebherr LG1750 crane was extremely complex and delicate and follows the successful install of the 110 tonne steel deck, just a fortnight ago.

With the steel deck and arch structures now in place, the team is now focused on the next stage of this complex project to install eighteen full locked coil cables by a specialist international contractor.

Abergeldie CEO Mark Bruzzone said “We are extremely proud of the collaborative effort to successfully lift and position the prefabricated steel deck and arch structure for the new Alfred Street Bridge, a project which aligns closely with our purpose to deliver the complex infrastructure to build better communities. We are grateful to City of Parramatta for the opportunity to deliver this Australian-first bridge and look forward to completing it over the coming weeks.”

Hunter Water, Abergeldie and Tunnelling Solutions have been announced as winners in the 2023 Infrastructure Project Innovation award category for works to restore the Balickera Tunnel at the Australian Water Association’s NSW Heads of Water Gala and Awards Dinner held on Friday evening.

The Infrastructure Project Innovation award recognises significant and innovative water infrastructure projects driving prosperity and sustainability.

The Balickera Tunnel Project involved the restoration of a critical water asset, ensuring the ongoing reliable transfer of water from the Williams River to Grahamstown Dam via the Balickera Pump Station. The works included upgrades to existing access tracks and major rehabilitation works inside the tunnel to stabilise the rock surface. A collaborative effort combined with agile and innovative thinking helped the project teams overcome conflicting safety, environmental and operational challenges as well as the unexpected effects of La Nina and the pandemic during construction.

Abergeldie CEO, Mark Bruzzone said “Congratulations to everyone involved on the Balickera Tunnel Project for your recognition at the AWA’s prestigious NSW Water Awards. The award win acknowledges your hard work and dedication to successfully deliver this highly complex water infrastructure project for the Lower Hunter region.”
